GVCSS has operated a Home Support Program under a series of service contracts with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and its predecessor agencies dating back to 1978. We also deliver Home Support services to clients referred to us by the Department of Veterans Affairs, WorkSafe BC, ICBC, Ministry of Child and Family Development, and Community Living British Columbia. Our Community Health Workers (CHWs) are qualified as Resident Care Aides by schools which follow the Provincial Curriculum for the Health Care Assistant Program. The GVCSS Nursing Team is licensed by the Registered Nurses Association of BC and the Licensed Practical Nurses Association of BC. Today, some 600 CHWs provide home support to more than 2600 clients, including both publicly-funded and private pay. GVCSS has established specialized teams to meet the home support needs of clients and families, including teams for Mental Health, Palliative Care and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) speaking clients.
