Saying Goodbye
Eric Ng
After 30 years of dedication to GVCSS Eric Ng, our Senior Accountant, will be retiring. Eric has been a valued employee not just for his exceptional accounting abilities, but also for his willingness to help out with a multitude of other tasks around the office, including being the unofficial cellphone expert, coffee supply deliverer for many years, and let’s not forget to mention being our GVCSS hot-dog eating champion! In all seriousness, Eric has always been a proud and strong advocate for GVCSS and has worked tirelessly to uphold financial accountability. Eric has graciously agreed to help in orienting our new finance person while also taking the time to travel during his retirement. Thank you Eric and best wishes. We will miss you!
Kristie Clark
We would like to also extend good wishes to Kristie Clark. We are bidding Kristie a fond farewell as she will be leaving GVCSS to take on an exciting role as Regional Director of Professional Practice, Long Term Care and Assisted Living with Vancouver Coastal Health. Kristie’s last day of work will be October 21st. We will miss you, but know you will excel in your new position. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the Home Support program, and GVCSS for the past two years!
Community Inclusion
Greater Vancouver Community Services Society is pleased to join the Province, Inclusion BC and many other partnering organizations in recognizing October as Community Inclusion Month. The month is an opportunity to recognize the hard work of individuals, families and community members who create inclusive communities and opportunities for all British Columbians with developmental disabilities. We recognize the importance of inclusive housing, employment, health and well-being and self-determined strategies, all of which are part of the provincial initiative. All of us have a role in creating community inclusion and I encourage each one of us to reflect and act on what our role can be.
Investing in GVCSS
At their September Board of Directors meeting, the GVCSS Board passed a motion to reinvest in GVCSS for some one-time operational priorities. The investment will include using surplus retention funds earmarked for operational deficits, to update the processes and software we use in all aspects of the organization including Community Living, Home Support, Payroll/Accounting/HR Software, employee orientation and professional development upgrades, and administrative equipment such as an updated photocopier. The goal is to ensure GVCSS has all the processes and equipment to be as efficient as possible, have our employees be highly trained, and be ready to expand for any new projects or contracts that we may take on in the future.
