Home Share

GVCSS is proud to offer Home Sharing through our Community Living program, where a person with a disability lives with a family, couple or a single adult in their home within a community. As the individual becomes integrated in family life, they are given opportunities to develop natural relationships and social circles. GVCSS is currently seeking families, couples or single adults who are interested in sharing their homes and welcoming an individual with a disability into their families.

Opportunities for Home Share

Interested families, couples or single adults must qualify to become a home share host. The following lists the qualifications and the process for becoming a host family:

Prior training or experience related to supporting a person with developmental or physical disabilities. The Host Family shares our commitment to fully inclusive Community Living. Host Families understand that being a Host Family is a lifestyle choice, not a job. There is no eight-hour shift and then a return to their own families and homes. All family members must commit to the changes required to be a Host Family.

Host Families provide a safe home-like environment that meets all applicable safety standards. Requirements include:

  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Criminal Record Search
  • Valid BC Drivers License
  • Three Letters of Reference

The interview and assessment process consists of:

  • Application
  • Home Study
  • Autobiographical Interview
  • Safety Check
  • Skills Inventory

Various factors will be considered when matching caregivers and individuals, such as social and cultural values, location, and successful personal connection during an interview and integration process.
